USS America will eventually be deployed to Japan

In an extensive interview with U.S. Naval Institute, Maj. Gen. Chris Owens said USS America will eventually be deployed to Japan as the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship.

Owens, the Director of expeditionary warfare directorate (OPNAV N95), said the exact timing of the transfer is still being determined. He also said that another LHD might join USS America in Okinawa.
