25th anniversary of RCAF 416 Squadron’s participation in First Gulf War

This month marks the 25th anniversary whereby Royal Canadian Air Force CF-188s from 416 Squadron went into combat in Iraq during the First Gulf War in 1991.

Staging out of Doha, Qatar, the 416 Squadron participation was Canada’s first aerial combat since 1953. Although no Canadian was killed in combat, those who returned home later had posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
