Philippine Supreme Court clears U.S. to use military facilities

The Philippine Supreme Court has ruled that the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (Edca) signed by the Philippines and United States in 2014 is constitutional.

The pact allowed U.S. warships, aircraft and personnel to use Philippine military facilities.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter said both sides are now looking at how to use the agreement to strengthen each other’s maritime security capabilities and keeping a peaceful region “where everyone has freedom to carry out their affairs, including commerce.”
