The carrier came back from an unplanned surge deployment in May 2013 and subsequently spent time at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton for repairs, which was completed in November 2014.

The crew then spent one year preparing for this deployment with a series of exercises including a Composite Training Unit Exercise and Joint Task Force Exercise.
