Red Tails hope to land F-35A mission

187th Fighter Wing is hoping to switch from the F-16 to the F-35A at the end of this decade. The Alabama National Guard unit has the oldest F-16 fleet in the National Guard inventory, said Col. Randy Efferson, the commanding officer of the unit.

Only two National Guard fighter squadrons will be selected to operate the F-35A and a decision will be made this year.
