China says its military installations in South China Sea are legitimate

During a press conference on Feb. 23, the Chinese Ministry of Defense was asked to comment on a report by Center for Strategic and International Studies on radar installations under construction in the South China Sea.

A spokesperson said military installations there are necessary for defending the country’s sovereignty and such conduct is legitimate.

The ministry also said the Freedom of Navigation operations and overflights by the United States are the source of militarization in South China Sea.
