North Korea is building a credible solid-fuel rocket motor

A detailed analysis by John Schilling at 38 North suggests North Korea is on the path towards getting a solid-fuel replacement for the upper stage of the Nodong medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM).

Pyongyang could also eventually have a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in the 2030s based on its current research program.
