A U.S. defense official says Russian Su-24s carried out low-level flights close to USS Donald Cook while the warship was underway in the Baltic Sea on Apr. 11 and 12.

The incident was so serious that the Washington lodge a complain with Moscow.
The aircraft was not carrying any weapons at that time but the official said such overflights are prohibited by a 1973 treaty between the U.S. and Russia.
