Boeing is touting an upgraded Harpoon ER anti-ship missile as the ideal choice of weapon for the U.S. Navy’s littoral combat ship (LCS).

US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) currently wants to mount the Kongsberg Naval Strike Missile (NSM) on the LCS but Boeing says the Harpoon ER is a cheaper weapon as the AGM-84 has been in service since the 1970s.
To improve the range from 67nm to 134nm, Boeing will swap the turbojet engine with a more efficient version and install a lighter warhead.
