The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (Swedish: Försvarets materielverk, FMV) revealed on May 13 that it is in talks with the Botswana government to sell 8 Gripen C/D fighters to the African nation.

The disclosure came as Botswana magazine The Business Weekly & Review said in an upcoming issue that Botswana has selected the Gripen to replace its Canadair CF-5.
