First commanding officer of HMS Queen Elizabeth joins the ship

The first commanding officer of the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth has taken command of the ship on May 24 at Portsmouth Naval Base.

Captain Jerry Kyd holds the rank of Commodore but he will follow historical custom and routinely wear the rank of Captain Royal Navy in his role as Commanding Officer of HMS Queen Elizabeth.

This is his third carrier after having commanded both HMS Ark Royal and HMS Illustrious.
