U.K. to pick vendor for laser weapon demonstrator

Britain will choose a contractor next month to lead a laser weapon demonstration program and a Babcock-led team has proposed fielding a Qinetiq developed laser mounted on the Phalanx CIWS.

Such an approach will ensure that the research funds are spent developing the weapon and not the mount, a Raytheon executive explained.
