It’s official. V-22 to get airborne refueling role

The Pentagon on May 26 awarded a $58 million contract to the Bell-Boeing Joint Project Office in order for the latter to develop and integrate the V-22 aerial refueling system for the MV-22.

NAVIR will supervise the contract execution and the whole project is to be completed by June 2019.

A spokeswoman from the USMC told Breaking Defense that the system will offload 4,000lbs initially and this will increase to 10,000lbs by 2019.
