The F-16 jet from the Thunderbirds went down after a flyover at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s commencement ceremony that was officiated by President Obama. The No. 6 pilot, Maj. Alex Turner, later met Obama who thanked him for his service to the country.

Hours after the Thunderbirds crash, the Blue Angels were carrying out a practice for an upcoming airshow then one of their jets also went down in Smyrna, Tennessee.

An official statement from the Navy said the jet went down after taking off.
