No fighter jets taking part in Singapore’s NDP 2016 flypast

Singapore will celebrate its 51st birthday on Aug. 9. This year, the organizers have decided to hold the National Day Parade (NDP) at the Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang for the first time. And for the first time since 1983, there will be no fighter jets from the Republic of Singapore Air Force participating during the flypast segment.

The last time this happened was back in 1983 when the parade was decentralized, when the parade was held at several sites across the island.

Flypast of the State Flag will also not occur over at the National Stadium, instead the CH-47 helicopter with the Singapore Flag suspended underneath and its AH-64 escorts will fly along the coastline and an accompanying Super Puma helicopter will beam the flypast on to the display screens inside the stadium.

  1. On the 9th March, Mindef did mention that 5 F16D + fighter jets will be involved in NDP 2016. But for the past NDP rehearsals, i don’t see them. I hope MINDEF would clarify this matter.

  2. Why do they want to do this year NDP at the kallang stadium -_- a closed area and we don’t get to enjoy the view of marina bay during the celebration times. and THERES NO FIGHTER JETS FOR SALUTE TO THE NATION ?????? you got to be kidding me ndp won’t missed out on that. Is better for those jets to just fly above the stadium other then No Fighter jets..

  3. To Andy Chong, perhaps the NDP committee wanted to save cost for this year’s NDP by cutting the flypast segment.

  4. A flypast is possible. Look at home american do it on 4th of july. The organizers have their reasons for that, but still it won’t be the same.
