India’s state auditors fault MiG-29K

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, an agency that audits the government and state governments, has faulted the Navy’s MiG-29K program.

Auditors told lawmakers that there were numerous problems with the jet’s airframe, engines, simulator and fly-by-wire system.

These issues lead to a poor serviceability rate of only 15.93% to 37.63% for the single-seat MiG-29K and 21.30% to 47.14% for the MiG-29KUB.

Yet, despite these deficiencies, the Indian Navy accepted and inducted the aircraft into service.

CAG added that the jet’s service life of 6,000 hours is likely to be shorter because of defects.
