China sends radar imaging satellite into space

China has successfully orbit its Gaofen-3 radar imaging satellite using a Long March-4C rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center on Aug. 10.

Gaofen-3 is the only one in the Gaofen series of Earth observation satellites that has a 1-meter resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR).

Liu Jie, Gaofen 3’s chief designer, said the satellite is designed to remain in space for up to eight years.
