Experience in Syria prompting Russia to upgrade rotors of its combat helicopters

Russia has gained value experience operating its attack helicopters in Syria and one of the lessons learned was that the metal rotor blades were wearing out faster in the harsh environment in Syria. In future, Russia will be switching to composite rotor blades to mitigate the issues.

The first type of attack helicopter to have composite blades will be the Mi-28NM attack helicopter, Russia’s Aerospace Forces Commander Viktor Bondarev told the Izvestia newspaper.
