Taiwan has opted to buy 13 sets of the Phalanx Block 1B CIWS that was offered for sale by the United States under an arms package.

The arms package includes two Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigates, 36 AAV-7 amphibious assault vehicles, and 250 Block I-92F MANPAD Stinger missiles and other equipment.
Taiwan had agreed to buy the frigates and assault vehicles in May.
