DOT&E found issues with integrating AIM-9X, 25mm gun on F-35

The Pentagon’s director of operational test and evaluation (DOT&E) has found issues with weapon integration on the F-35 that could hinder the declaration of full operational capability for the stealth fighter.

One key finding was that when the jet fires its 25mm cannon, the aircraft would yaw as the gun door opens. This reduces the accuracy of the gun.

And during a December testing of the AIM-9X on the F-35C, testers found excess stress on the carrier-variant’s wing structure during landings and certain maneuvers. This could have an impact on the wing structure and might warrant a redesign on that part of the wing.
