U.S. Army selects ATEC for new engine to power Apache and Black Hawk

The U.S. Army wants a new advanced 3,000 shaft horsepower turbine engine to its fleet of Black Hawk and Apache helicopters. For that, it selected the Advanced Turbine Engine Company (ATEC), a joint venture of Honeywell and Pratt & Whitney, to accomplish the task.

ATEC will have to come out with an engine that’s 50 percent more powerful, 25 percent more fuel efficient, and provide 20 percent longer engine life over the current engine.
