Engine failure cause of F-16C crash in Germany

The 480th Fighter Squadron lost a F-16C near Engelmannreuth, Germany one year ago, investigators have now determined the root cause of the accident.

Twenty-nine minutes into the flight, the engine lost thrust and the pilot attempted to restart it for five times. But his attempts were futile as a structural failure of the bearing cage caused the main engine control to malfunction. This lead to fuel starvation and there is no way to restart the power plant.
