F-16 pilot saved by Auto GCAS

A foreign trainee pilot was saved by his F-16’s Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System (Auto GCAS) during a training flight with the Arizona Air National Guard’s 152nd Fighter Squadron.

The incident took place on May 5 this year when the trainee was carrying out a basic fighter maneuver with his instructor,who was flying in another F-16. He suffered a G-force induced loss of consciousness and the system immediately kicked in and recovered the aircraft from impact with the ground.
