Germany wants aerostats for U.N. peacekeeping mission in Mali

Berlin has signaled that it intends to deploy a number of tethered aerostats for its U.N. peacekeeping mission in Mali.

The United States has provided Germany with information on the options available and an anonymous official told Reuters that around 40 Persistent Threat Detection System airships that the U.S. Army deployed in Afghanistan could be sold at a discount.

The current plan is to have the aerostats deployed around 2019-2020.
