Malaysia approach Japan for free P-3Cs

Nikkei reports that Malaysia has approached Japan for second-hand Kawasaki P-3 maritime patrol aircraft and Tokyo is giving serious consideration on the proposal.

Current laws forbid Tokyo from donating its defense equipment to other countries, but legislation would allow the free transfer of equipment. Malaysia could be the first country to benefit from the change.

The idea is for Japan to refurbish those aircraft – which have clocked more than 15,000 flight hours – before transferring them to Malaysia.
