Aegis destroyer USS Fitzgerald involved in collision at sea, 7 sailors unaccounted for

USS Fitzgerald, a Aegis guided-missile destroyer, was involved in a collision with a Philippine merchant ship southwest of Yokosuka, Japan, on Jun. 17.


NHK reported that seven sailors aboard the warship is unaccounted for. NHK cited the Japanese Coast Guard in its report.

One sailor has been evacuated for medical treatment by the Japanese Coast Guard.

The U.S. Navy said the ship suffered damage on her starboard side above and below the waterline. There is some flooding and the ship has limited propulsion.
