Software fix for EMALS validated by U.S. Navy
A software fix for the U.S. Navy’s Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) has been validated by the service. It was found during testing that the next-generation catapult generates excessive vibration to the aircraft when external fuel tanks are attached.

SM-3 Block IIA interceptor self-destruct after operator pushed wrong button
An anonymous source told Defense News that the failure of the SM-3 Block IIA test on Jun. 21 was human error after tactical datalink controller accidentally identified in ballistic missile target as friendly. This trigger the self-destruct mechanism in the missile interceptor.

China says latest intercept of USN EP-3 by J-10s legit
The crew of a U.S. Navy EP-3 spy plane had to make evasive actions when a Chinese J-10 fighter came within 300 feet of the aircraft on Jul. 23. China’s Ministry of Defense said on Jul. 25 that the intercept was legal.
