India may agree to buy US-2 during Shinzo Abe’s visit

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is visiting India from today till tomorrow and the Hindu Business Line says New Delhi could signal its intention to buy 12 ShinMaywa US-2 amphibian during his visit.

The deal was apparently sealed during former Indian Defence Minister Arun Jaitley’s visit to Tokyo last week.

The twelve aircraft will be assembled in India and the next phase of the agreement could see 18 US-2s assembled locally under the “Make in India” program.
