U.S. CH-47Ds sold to South Korea are outdated

South Korean news network JTBC reported on Sept. 18 that 14 CH-47Ds sold by the United States to South Korea in 2014 are so outdated that the military has decided to not to upgrade them.

The report says the rotorcraft were used by the U.S. military for many years before being transferred to the Koreans. The GPS navigation system on board were stripped from the aircraft and the Americans had promised to retrofit them back later, till today, no updates were carried out.

These aircraft also lack missile protection systems and ballistic armor on the floors.
