A report by South Korea’s Yonhap news agency says Seoul is also keen to operate the Lockheed Martin F-35B from its Dokdo-class amphibious assault ships.

“I understand that the military top brass have recently discussed whether they can introduce a small number of F-35B fighters and operate them aboard the new ship that has already been deployed and one to be additionally built,” an anonymous military source was quoted as saying.

The country currently has one ship in operation and one under construction. Modifications are required to allow the ships to operate the stealth fighter.
