USAF proposes swapping Tyndall’s F-22s with up to 3 squadrons of F-35s

The U.S. Air Force has indicated its intentions to swap F-22s from Tyndall Air Force Base with the F-35.

Once approved, the F-22s will be reassigned to units in Alaska, Hawaii and Virginia. Those squadrons will have 24 aircraft instead of 21.

The service argued that since the base needs to be rebuilt due to damage caused by Hurricane Michael. The rebuilding process should be done in such a way to accommodate the needs of the F-35.
