The former commander of 56th Training squadron and F-35 test pilot, retired Lt. Col. Matthew Hayden, was killed in a small plane crash in Ohio on Mar. 17.

Hayden was the first F-35 pilot at Luke to clock 500 hours on the F-35. He was a F-16 test pilot prior to his transition to F-35.
