Boeing has started construction of first 2 F-15EX fighters as Pentagon awards $22 billion contract

The Pentagon has given Boeing a $22.89 billion contract on Jul. 13 for the F-15EX program. The first delivery order is worth $1.2 billion for the first lot of eight fighters.

Boeing announced simulatanously that the construction of the first two aircraft has started.

The two jets will be delivered next year and all eight aircraft will go to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, to support testing efforts.

The press release from the U.S. Air Force says the F-15EX will have U.S.-only capabilities such as a deep magazine that can carry a load of advanced weapons.
