Lt. j.g. Madeline “Maddy” Swegle will be flying the EA-18G

Lt. j.g. Madeline G. Swegle was designated a naval aviator and received her Wings of Gold on Jul. 30 and she will now head to NAS Whidbey Island to train as a EA-18G pilot with VAQ-129.


Swegle is the U.S. Navy’s first Black female tactical air (TACAIR) pilot.

She is also part of a new generation of TACAIR pilots to qualify on the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG). She completed carrier qualifications in the Atlantic Ocean off the Florida coast, May 20 aboard USS Gerald R. Ford.
