U.S. Air Force reactivates Fifteenth Air Force

The U.S. Air Force has reactivated the Fifteenth Air Force on Aug. 20 under Air Combat Command.


The Fifteenth Air Force was first established in 1943 as the Mediterranean theater’s air force.

Units under its umbrella are from fighters, RPAs, search and rescue, command and control plus Red Horse squadrons.

These units were previously under the Ninth and Twelve Air Forces and the existing Ninth Air Force will be inactivated and the U.S. Air Forces Central Command will be re-designated Ninth Air Force.
