One of the items that was revealed in Japan’s defense budget for fiscal year 2021 is for the spending of $201 million to upgrade the F-15J so that it can carry a missile with a range of more than 900km.

The AGM-158 JASSM-ER is likely the missile as it has a range of 930km.
The record $52 billion budget will also purchase 4 F-35As and 2 F-35B fighters for slightly more than $2 billion.
Another $218 million will be spent to improve JS Kaga so that it can operate the F-35B.
