F-15 WSOs, F-16 pilots and AWACS battle manager gave their feedback on military utility of direct energy weapons

A wargaming, modeling and simulation event was held at Kirtland Air Force Base recently by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Directed Energy Directorate.

The Directed Energy Utility Concept Experiment (DEUCE) brought together F-16 pilots, F-15E weapon systems officers and an Airborne Warning and Control System air battle manager, and exposed them to the capabilities of airborne laser weapon systems.

During the experiment, visitors were able to identify potential military utility of directed energy weapons for air base air defense and platform protect missions.
