U.S. Army is blowing up this low-cost threat emitter built by the Navy

NAWCAD’s Atlantic Test Ranges (ATR) has put together a low-cost Mobile Threat Emitter System (MTES) for the U.S. Army.

Using legacy magnetron generators that were “collecting dust in the shop,” the equipment is mounted on a $600 commercial pizza turntable so that testers can vary the azimuth during practice.

ATR has also produce a new solid-state MTES for the U.S. Navy. These emitters will generate EW signals in the VHF, S, C, and X bands that are much more precise with far greater range than the analog, magnetron-based legacy systems they replace.
