Civilian Sea King helicopter crashed while retrieving inert training torpedoes

A preliminary investigation report by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board into the crash of an S-61N helicopter in Hawaii disclosed that the helicopter was trying to retrieve inert training torpedoes for the U.S. Navy on that day.


The crash took place on Feb. 22, near Barking Sands Beach, on Kauai and two pilots along with two crew members were killed.

Eyewitnesses saw the helicopter flying low above the ground before it went nose down and hit the ground.

The Sea King was owned and operated by Croman Corporation.
