The conversion project came under the U.S. Navy’s Building Partner Capacity program. This comes three-and-a-half years after the U.S. signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance to implement the project.

The aircraft was flown to Indonesia for the conversion and a maritime surveillance mission suite, maritime surveillance radar, an electro-optical infrared turret, line-of-sight datalink, and a roll-on/roll-off mission system operator station were added to the airframe. This took place from September 2020 and first flight was in October 2021.

The entire process to convert the rest of the aircraft will be done by end of this year.
