A Il-78 tanker that has been stranded at Michigan’s Sawyer International Airport for nearly three years could be removed soon.
A temporary lease was given to a Spanish company to inspect and remove the tanker. The plane was on its way from Texas to Pakistan when it was grounded at the airport on Jul. 17, 2009 due to a legal dispute over nonpayment of $63,910 for goods and services.
Headlands Limited will have to pay $35,000 in fees before it is allowed to move the jet to a hangar for pre-flight inspection.
