Investigations into the fatal crash of a Red Arrows in August last year found that the supervision of the aerobatics team was lacking.
The Military Aviation Authority has now said the elite flying team had not been supervised closely enough following an investigation into a mid-air collision between two of its pilots in Crete in March 2010.
“This was a significant shortcoming, given less than 18 months earlier the RAFAT had experienced the loss of an aircraft and serious injury of a pilot as a result of a mid-air collision whilst training in Crete. The subsequent service inquiry highlighted, inter alia, shortcomings in supervision, standards and risk management.”
