Taiwan revealed that it will retire all of its F-5 fighters in 2019 and Defense Minister Kao Hua-chu was asked by lawmakers what measures the RoCAF has prepared for the departure of the fighters.
When asked whether Taiwan will buy the F-16C/D or F-35 to replace the F-5s, Kao replied that the military will continue to purchase advanced defense technologies beyond its existing F-16A/Bs.
Military sources say Taiwan is only interested to buy 33 F-16C/Ds and they must be equipped with AESA radars.
