VAW-117 was suppose to swap four E-2Cs with VAW-115 on board USS George Washington, however the carrier was diverted to the Philippines and now both squadrons are assisting the carrier in its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mission.
With eight aircraft, both squadrons are helping to guide search and rescue missions and to extend the range of communications.
