Sources say the Pentagon is likely to drop the Combat Avionics Programmed Extension Suite (CAPES) entirely and opt for a simpler and cheaper service-life extension program (SLEP) for its F-16 fleet.
Taiwan’s desire to upgrade its F-16s will be seriously affected as their upgrade would be directly based on the CAPES program.
