U.S. government turns down Egypt’s appeal to deliver AH-64s

The Obama administration has turned down an urgent appeal from Egypt to have 10 AH-64 attack helicopters delivered.

The aircraft were supposed to reach Egypt last October but Washington blocked the delivery after the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi last year.

Egypt said the helicopters are needed to fight against a new Al Qaeda-linked terrorist group called Ansar Bait al-Maqdis in the Sinai Peninsula.
