Writer Kenneth R. Timmerman says Qatar had secretly armed the Taliban with new Stinger MANPADS.
Timmerman said U.S. officials got hold of evidence when a CH-47 was unsuccessfully attacked by a MANPAD on Jul. 25, 2012. U.S. forces took out the firing team with a gunship attack and the next day, a EOD team found a serial number from fragments of the launcher.
The Stinger was traced to a batch that were transferred to Qatar in early 2011 and were meant for anti-Khadafy forces in Libya.
