USMC ready to start first class for Military Occupational Specialty 7518, F-35B pilot

VMFAT-501 is about to kick off the first F-35B Safe for Solo course. After three-months of training, graduand will earn the Military Occupational Specialty 7518, F-35B pilot.

XO of the squadron said the new fighter is easier to fly compared to the Hornet and Harrier, thus students will spend less time on “mechanics of flying the jet, and (they will) start teaching advanced concepts at a much earlier stage in training.”

  1. Another hilarious F-35 PR moment for USMC. The JSF is easier to fly but is required to fly within restricted a restricted flight envelope (again) because of the F135 fire that grounded the entire F-35 fleet (again). Throw in that not a single F-35 could go to war tomorrow after 14+ years of development/$400 billion dollars of funding and the botched deployment to the UK and gosh it all looks so wonderful.
