All three of Taiwan’s military services will adopt the Tien-Chien II air-to-air missile for their air defense coverage in future.
Whilst the missile has been in active service with the Air Force’s IDF fighter, the weapon is yet to be field by the Army and Navy.
This will soon change as the Army version was successfully tested in 2013. The ‘Crossbow’ project integrated an air defense radar with the TC-2 and an indigenous 40mm gun. Two surface-launched TC2s shot down the target during the test.
In July, the Navy carried out a test of the TC-2 from FF-937 Hwai Yang. With the successful test, the RoCN will replace the SM-1 with TC-2 starting from 2016.
