Right after the Pentagon announced that Australia and Japan have been selected to carry out maintenance of the F-35 in the Pacific, Seoul said it won’t be sending its own aircraft to Japan for servicing.
“There will never be a case where our fighter jets will be taken to Japan for maintenance,” said an official at South Korea’s arms procurement agency, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
An anonymous source told Reuters that the current plan is for South Korea to send its fighters to Australia to carry out the maintenance.
